Mahatma Gandhi and Football

What powerful medium a popular sport really is or can be, if used with dexterity, is highlighted through this article. As discussed by Mr. Soumitra Bose in Saturday's class, a popular sport can be very deftly used as a utility to propagate and exploit popular thoughts (And mint money also, which doesn't need a mention, as commercialization of sports has increasingly become a customary practice nowadays), which people could CONNECT with. He also mentioned Gandhiji, who used Football as a means to initiate the resistance against the English colonizers. Quite interestingly, he heralded this struggle first in South Africa by starting three football clubs in Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg, consisting of people belonging to the discriminated class, which played against the English clubs to show their resilience against the imperial authority. For more dope on this, read the article at the undermentioned link.
