Another earthquake under 11 days

Just 11 days after the national capital was shook by a mild earthquake, another quake shook the northeast and northern parts of India at 6:17 p.m on Sunday evening, this one of 6.8 intensity on Richter Scale. Its epicenter was recorded to be in Sikkim, according to the India Meteorological Department. The tremors were felt as far as in New Delhi.
The quake shook U.P. capital Lucknow for at least 30 seconds, driving the panic-stricken people out of their homes and offices into the streets. Though the state meteorological department described the quake as one of "moderate intensity" in UP and there are no reports of any casualties or damage to property, it is pathetic to note that there is not even a single seismometer to record earthquakes. A senior officer of the earthquake division, at the regional office of Geological Survey of India (GSI), Lucknow, said that they rely on data of the Meteorological department. A perfect manifestation of the laid-back attitude that U.P. stands for!
