A day started with a rape case                                                                                                                     or

                                               Journey towards Justice

It was 18th December’s morning and I was still in bed, half asleep. And I heard my father giving the news about the gang rape with a girl in a bus to my mom, suddenly they came to me and with a sympathized and afraid voice my dad asked me to always try to reach home as early as possible kyuki jamana kharab ho raha hai and on any day if I have to come late I should call him and he will be picking me up from the metro station. That day I thought look the rape cases in Delhi are getting so high that parents are not ashamed of talking about it to their daughters, they want them to know this and be safe. So here is my day which started with a rape case. After this scene I got ready for my college and reached to my metro station ‘Welcome’ safe and sound. I thought I should tell you safe and sound cause in Delhi for a girl to reach somewhere safely is not a common thing. I boarded my metro and in metro thoughts come very frequently and the rape thing was still in my mind. And looking outside I was thinking that how cruel a man can be, I was cursing god for doing this to that angel and questioned him why girls are not given power to destroy man like that. And while writing it came to my mind that may be because God too is man cause while writing in flow I used him for God. Unknowingly the female has given male the whole power; unknowingly I have used him for the greatest power. Ting ting the doors for kashmeree gate will open from the left. I heard that all my thoughts vanished and changed the metro and boarded my metro towards DU. The metro was underground nothing to look outside so thoughts too were about the people inside. I was sympathizing for every girl I saw in the metro and gave a hate look to every other guy. But I saw a sign of shame in every guy’s eyes, a shame for the act which 6 monsters of their breed have done. As all girls do I discussed this thing with my friend and she told me about her being molestated once in the bus. Note my words in Delhi every girl has a story of being molestated, a thing common for Delhi girl , and no this thing is not for you Priyanka Gandhi , not common to the 3 daughters of prime minister and home minister, you are not common people yaar.

And then we attended our class and after the class my mobile was full of messages and whats app about the brutality that girl has gone through. Oh I must say that little angle has gone through more than hell, those monsters, hevaan , bhaidiye they not only raped her body but raped her soul .That angel is in ICU fighting for a breath. Hey angel please you live, come strong lady I want you to live.
And my emotions for her came out in my FB status. Getting information was once the work of our media but now a new thing has emerged where not only information but emotions are also shared that is social media. Social media kept me updated about the condition of the girl. The emotions shared through this media arose the feeling of protesting for the girl.
On 22nd December I actually went for the protest. But first let me tell you what made me go for a protest at India gate. Its social media at first which made me aware of the protest. On FB everyone was signing a petition of death sentence for rapists.  Audios and videos were shared on internet, mobile. The words of 1 audio being “kut kut ke maaro jab tak marten nhi ye saale, sharam aati hai kehte hue ki hum hai dilli vale and so on.”(Beat these beasts till they are dead, it’s shameful to say that we are Delhites). It was shared among all that the protests against the rape cases will be held at India gate. And on second place were my emotions and frustration which made me to join the protest.
On 22nd I was having a class, in class everyone made the decision to go to India Gate. No one in the class made the excuse for not going there cause everyone inside was in the search of the justice. Now we boarded the metro towards Huda city centre and deboarded it at Patel Chowk at around 2:30.As we exit the station, we were there at India gate. The we here includes the lakhs of youth and student standing in front of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. The tear gas was there in the atmosphere and killing it was the passion of the youth there. As I went ahead and moved towards Rashtrapati Bhawan, I walk across girls screaming and crying for justice. Boys showing anger, this anger was the result of the shame in their eyes I talked about. We all collected there to give justice to Damini, to hang those rapists to death, to have a strict law against rapes. All through the protest our group shouted, ran here and there to save ourselves from tear gas. And as I reached in front of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. I was stunned, stunned to see arms of RAF forces and khadi wearer police. They were there to charge lathis on us. Literally the kalyug has come, the criminals are getting protection and people in want of justice are being beaten.
We came to know that the barricades are about to move and then these officers will be smashing us. Male present there asked us to move to safer places. We moved back but within a minute the arms did a lkathi charge. At that time we ran for our safety, many were injured in the process, but the police had to stop cause not only we were more in numbers but also our enthusiasm and passion was more than theirs. They made the peaceful protest violent one. But their water cannons, lathi charge and tear gas did injure us but never broke us. And with the fight for justice came night and believe that protest was massive, at that time we walked to the India gate and joined the candle march with slogan in our mouth” WE WANT JUSTICE”. It was late 8 till then; the girls of our group had to leave. We did not want to go but were afraid of the beast who could harm us if we will get late in going to our shelters.
Again I boarded the metro to Jahangir puri, changed it at Kashmeree gate and deboarded  at welcome. And on my way to home dare anyone touch me I would have killed him, you stare and I will be staring you harder. Though the shame which Delhi is going through, no one dared to do that. And you can see that how safe we feel in metro stations, it’s easy and safe to travel by them.
That night I reached home may be at 8:30. I was little violent that time and in bed too I was picturising what Damini may have gone through. My legs were shaking that time and at the moment I made a decision to never to satisfy men’s body and maintain my chastity. And then I slept.
The next day on 23rd December I did not join the protest but watched it all on my TV. Government imposed act 144 at India gate and had closed many metro stations, our means to go anywhere. But still youth came in large numbers. Girls like kalis were fighting back to police. The youth made every way to fight back the injustice but alas by noon the protest flowed away with dirty politics. One part of government NSUI, ABVP and ASIA made the protest violent and government got an excuse to evacuate India gate beating away the youth.
Earlier the relative raped us, police raped us, citizens raped us and now the government too was raping us.  We asked for justice against the rape and in answer we all got raped. That is why our country is called INCREDIBLE INDIA. Thank you Sheila ji, Sonia ji, shindeji and singh ji for your kind of justice. The day went on like this and on TV sets I saw protest dying.
Came the next day morning 24th December, the day we all should have been planning for Christmas, but the ills of our city did not allow us to do that. I got ready for college; we were to make plans of the event in our college. Finishing the college at about 1:30 or 2:00, a voice came out of our group I don’t remember whose voice it was; let’s go to the protest that is going on near Jantar Mantar. I know we are Indians, very stubborn. We will not leave the case like this. So we moved towards the metro as many stations were closed on government demand, we had to deboard it at new Delhi rather then patel chowk this time ,no auto was willing to go to Jantar Mantar so we grabbed a cab for that ,in between we were to leave the cab too because of the massive jam and so walked towards Jantar Mantar. We would have never taken this much pain but our demand for justice was more this time. We reached to JANTAR MANTAR AT 4:30, it took us 3 hours to reach there from DU. You can imagine how messed up our city was at that time.
As we reached there we saw the crowd again shouting for justice but this time the protest was disheartening. It has lost its real cause, it was youth less and full of politics and politicians.
But within the protest I met few people. Let me tell about them one by one. First I met a person from intelligence, a doctor who left his work for a day and a lady or a government official. These three people were not officially allowed to join the protest because they were government people. But they were still there for the girl. Otherwise every other person there was politician. 3 more young boys were there standing away from the crowd , not speaking a word and holding posters demanding justice,in their hand and these 6 people standing aside were actually there to protest. When we saw violence arising in the crowd all of us left the protest and it naturally came to my mouth that it feels too sad to see all this. Leaving the place my group and those 3 govt. people asked the police to beat the people inside as much as they can because they have raped the lakhs.

Between all this, Mother India’s integrity was still inside the ventilators. I pray for her to stand back and see the whole nation besides her. Please come back smiling for your parents.

Justice is not the want but need this time

Delhi protesting and asking government to hang the rapists and to have a                           stricter law in rape case in front of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

On 22 December , Delhi and in particular youth emerged out in large numbers and protested in front of the Rashtrapati Bhavan . Be it water canons, lathi charge or tear gas nothing has stopped the youth in asking for justice.
But hanging the rapist is not the only thing .Youth should promise the government that another rape case in the city and again they will see us protesting and killing GOVERNMENT AND POLICE'S sight of peace. Government has made many promises and broke them all that is why  this time we are promising and  we will break you for another case against any girl in Delhi.
Now some suggestions to government:-
  • Please do not allow or delete rape scene and molestation scene in the movies.
  • Sue Honey singh for another song against the girls.
  • Rape and molestation has entered into our culture from the entertainment , kill it there and it may get less in the real world too.
  • Winking , wrong touch, passing bad comments try to end it from every aspect of our life. I mean do not perform these things even for fun among friends.
  • Like sex education ,respecting girls should also be taught in schools. tell the kids about the powerful women and teach them to respect their mothers and sister.
  • Now a controversial one provide legality to the FSW's . No matter what truth is that because of them many girls are safe and if it will become legal than girls who are captured for it forcefully or human trafficking will come down too.
That little angle in the hospital who has gone through hevaniyat , justice denied to her will be justice denied to nation.

Friday 21 December 2012

The Flip Side

My facebook notifications have been flooding with status updates by almost everybody in my friend list on the Delhi Gang Rape Case(I had to use capital initials because it has become a proper noun now) ever since it came to light. I decided to keep mum(Read "not updating status and not keeping a black dot as my profile picture") because I got really irritated. Firstly, the messages being circulated are fully twisted facts, like "the guy was thrown out first, and later the girl"; whereas the truth is that they were thrown out together. Secondly, all of a sudden, people are providing tons of advices to girls(carry pepper spray, etc.).
Coming to the point and analyzing the situation, I feel that the girl could have prevented the mishap. In a country where a two-month old baby is bitten and raped, and a 52-year old woman is met with the same fate, how can a girl of 23 even think of getting on a private bus with heavy black curtains after 9 PM in South Delhi? Even the non-Delhiite girls know this fact that it is absolutely dangerous to do so. Auto-rickshaw would have been a safer and more convenient option. Protest Marches, Candle Marches and pleas to make a law to castrate rapists are not gonna help in any way. In fact, if there becomes such a law then rapists will kill girls after raping so that no one ever finds out their sins. Let's face it -- even if she was accompanied by a male friend, the danger of any mishap hadn't vanished. In the recent Bangalore gang rape case also, the victim was with her boyfriend in a car but couldn't get away from getting raped(it should be noted that they parked the car in a jungle).
My question to all those protesting against this case is: Where were all these 'revolutionaries' when many cases of this kind took place, including the one mentioned above? Renowned film actor and director Farhan Akhtar says in a Delhi Police Campaign advertisement, "Mahilaaon ki suraksha khud unke haath mein hai." The National Women's Commission is always the first body to verbally condemn such inhuman acts and one shouldn't forget that it is comprised of a bunch of women who go to Guwahati for probing the infamous molestation case, wearing fancy hats and laughing and chatting as if they were on a holiday.
Without any second thoughts, what happened to the girl is beyond any expression of grief and shame. But don't you think that instead of advising women not to step out of their houses after 9, the Honorable Sheila Dikshit should conduct programs for uneducated male teens where they should be taught how to treat women and alternate ways to satisfy their sexual desires in place of shamelessly raping girls? Every mother after hearing of this case would be saying to her daughter, "You'll not go to Delhi for studying." or "Come back home before it gets dark or else we'll appoint a home tutor."; none of them would be telling her son, "If you think of doing any such thing, I'll bury you alive." It's high time to go on the right track and come up with rational measures to ensure the safety of women in the national (rape) capital. It is for the Delhi Police and the Chief Minister to find out such ways or they should die of shame.

And lastly, I suppose I am gonna receive hate messages for posting this.

TERI in association with POSOCO launches 'Rhythms from the Riverbanks' to promote 'cultural leadership' among youth

In a unique initiative, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in association with Power System Operation Corporation (POSOCO) today launched ‘Rhythms from the Riverbanks’ - an educational programme for college students on understanding the culture of two of the greatest river cities of India – Delhi and Kolkata at TERI University.
Gathering of the students was addressed by Dr. Leena Srivastava, Vice Chancellor, TERI University and Executive Director, TERI said “"POSOCO is a power company yet it is supporting a programme that
focuses on water. This to my mind, is an example of imaginative and
forward looking leadership. The three major river systems in South
Asia - the Ganga, Brahmaputra and Indus are inextricably linked and
crucial to India's growth and development and it is in our interest to
work towards the conservation of these rivers. The theme of 'Rhythms
from the Riverbanks' is therefore very relevant and topical”
Launching the joint initiative, Ms. Ranjana Saikia, Director, Educating Youth for Sustainable Development, TERI said “Culture is becoming an inseparable part of Sustainable Development. project. Rivers are worshiped in India and rightly so because they
nurture large populations. Even in power generation, water has an
important role to play in power generation. We are looking forward to
working with TERI and igniting young minds to carry forward the baton
and work for a better world."
The educational programme will weave together the issues of history, culture, economy and sustainability of these river cities, with the intention of inspiring youth to work towards the appreciation, recognition and dissemination of the rich cultural heritage of these cities. It endeavors to make young people learn, recognize and appreciate traditions and culture of their respective cities to become a culturally more empowered citizen of the world that can embrace diversity and celebrate differences; Develop skills in young people to critically analyze the existing culture and lifestyle and be able to take measures to change the paradigm if so required and also develop leadership qualities in young people to be active citizens who possess the capability to steer societies towards a culture of sustainability and coexistence.

CLASS REPORT- 15th DECEMBER 2012

We had an informative lecture by Mr Sanjay Mohan (Executive Producer, South Asia Newsline at Asian News International).

The lecture started with a discussion on the procedure of making a short film/video, he took the case study of a Pakistani microbiologist Mohammed Khalil Chishti as an example, who faced the prospect of life-long imprisonment in India in view of his conviction in a 1992 murder case, is now free to leave the country with the murder charge being overturned by the Supreme Court.

We came to know about various international press agencies like Agence France-Presse (AFP), Reuters, and Wolf

Vox Pops - a Latin phrase that means voice of the people.

He elucidated that how a news agency works. Basically, it works like a Swiss knife having different genres with an amalgamation of various components like wire, broadcast, online, graphics, unedited footage, TV stations. Perspective of both producer and reporter play a major role in editing of a particular footage e.g. Subcon (a simple subversion based configuration). News footage must include the origin, location, date. It must also include the list of events. The agency also prepares an archive of all the footages, so that a past event can be accessed in future also.

When a particular news event happens the reporters have to rush to the close vicinity which sometimes leads to a delay and they are incompetent to capture the right shot. OB vans and satellite feeds are sometimes also used but they are expensive and rare. Reliance Nodes, an approach to extend the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. Using node reliance may sometimes lead to a video which is pixelated. Liveu has played a major role in resolving all these issues; it offers a live broadcasting by providing a seamless broadband channel for live video transmission.

Once the news footage comes in, it is transferred to a video tape for archiving or it is pulled onto video sharing server for multiple users. The users/ press looks at a particular shot/footage and frames a script which on editing results into a video story which is now ready for release.

“Reuters never use the word terrorist instead it uses militant or gunman because for one he is a terrorist but for the other he may be a liberalist” he stated.

At last he taught us some ethics of journalism. To be a good journalist, one should stay focus, work hard and also show enthusiasm. One should also acquire interest in other units too. One must also use spare time to do extra work.

With this he ended his lecture and showed us some sample videos and we expressed our sincere gratitude.

(By:Ambrish Rai)

Live from Jantar Mantar-  By-Ambrish Rai
(Aseem Trivedi's Hunger strike for removal of IT ACT 66A)
4th Day, 4:30pm

  Asseem Trivedi against Act 66a

RALLY AGAINST ACT 66A

Famous cartoonist Aseem Trivedi  is on a dharna against the Act 66A at Jantar mantar. Today he took out a rally against the act from Jantar mantar. The rally walked by C.P, Palika Kendra and again reached the Jantar Mantar .Though in little numbers but Aged, youth, teenagers joined the rally and showed their support to Aseem. The enthusastic people marched with slogans like huha huha Kapil Sibbal chuha, nikalo bahar makaano se;jang lado baimano se and ye andar ki baat hai ;police humare saath hai.As the act 66A mainly annoys youth more of youth participation is expected.. A very young boy of 12th class preparing for UPSC suffering from typhoid joined the protest too, earlier also he stood up for Arvind Kejriwal’s  Aam Aadmi Party. He actively participates in every issue and somewhere represents the real youth of India and youth for India  At a point a policeman came haulting but the crowd handled it smoothly. But pressure from police for removing the tent is still there.

First it was Jan Lokpal bill then FDI then UID and now it’s the Information Technology ACT 66A. It seems the ruling government is leaving no way to say that we are a free country. All the anshan, andolan and dharnas are leaving no impact on the congress government. An old man in Aseem’s andolan said Salman khurshid’s statement that all protestors are gandi naali ke keede jinhe naare lagaane ki aadat hai clearly shows the attitude of theirs towards protestors. Now the younger faces are coming up for the common man. Arvind kejriwal came up with the Aam Aadmi Party and now it’s a much younger face Aseem Trivedi. It’s the time government is needed to show that government is our servant not our master so instead of mastering us they should serve us.
