"Earthquake shakes up the National Capital"

A 4.2 magnitude earthquake, scaled down from an initial 6.6 on Richter Scale, shook the national capital and its outskirts for 5-6 seconds at 11:28 p.m on Wednesday night, driving out thousands of people out of their homes. An IMD official described the quake as "slight", and as it was, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Epicenter of the quake was in Sonepat in Haryana, about 90 kms. from Delhi, and its aftershocks were felt in places as far as Utttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir.
The incident occurred only a few hours after Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha : "Delhi is among 30 important cities in the country that fall into high risk seismic zone (Zone IV)...As per seismic map of India prepared by Bureau of Indian Standards, 58.6% areas fall into earthquake zone V (very high risk), IV (high risk), and III (moderate risk)."
