We had a very informative session with Mr. Sarvesh Dutt Tripathy (Associate Professor, IP University).
We were told about the traditional and the modern approach of news, its types and forms of reporting.

Traditional Definition Of News:
Any information which is interesting or is of interest for the maximum number of people is termed as news.
Modern Definition Of News:
Information which is sellable is news.

Types Of News:
1. Journalistic News :- is related to fresh / current events reported.
2. Non- Journalistic News :- is a non- news report which can be found in Delhi Times, HT City so on and so forth.

We were also told about the different formats of writing like articles, columns, features etc.

Different Forms Of Report/News:
1. Event News :- is based on any current event. For example any cultural or a sports event currently held.
2. Accident / Incident News:- is based on any mishap or any unpleasant incident or any accident.
3. Speech News:- is based on the speech of any leader (political/ religious etc) and is totally based on what the person spoke about.

Collection of information and sorting the information collected are the 2 main and most important steps to write any form of report.

News is always written in the order of importance and the style of news writing is known as inverted pyramid.
