World's cheapest computer tablet AAKASH was launched in the capital on Wednesday by MINISTER OF COMMUNICATION AND IT. Government is offering this tablet to the high school students (9th-12th) at a subsidised rate ( approx Rs. 1,750) . After sometime this scheme will be expanded to every sphere of the student group.It will be available in the market from November at the price of Rs. 3,000 to the common people.The goverment is sourcing the tablet from UK- based DATA WIND at Rs. 2,256 (approx) -inclusive of all taxes,levies,freight and insurance charges,servicing and documentation. It will have a 7 inch display screen, Google android 2.2 operating system,800 x 480 resolution,weigh -350 grams,256 MB ram,32 GB expandable memory,336 MHz processor.It will also coin a ONE YEAR REPLACEMENT GUARANTEE.BUT at the same time it doesn't offers 3G service and a camera.
Government has ordered 1,00,000 tabs. and through placing more orders ,wishes to cut down its price even more.It will act as a boon for the students as it is designed with the aim of improving the quality of learning in schools.
