CLASS REPORT 10TH DECEMBER 2013

Today we had an informative lecture from Mrs Ratnawali Mitra (Science Journalist at All India Radio). The lecture started with a brief discussion on the importance of science journalism and the need of science journalists in media.
Science plays an important role and is an integral part of our day to day life. Anything happening on this planet earth can be explained on the basis of scientific facts.
Pre-requisites for a science journalist:
-         Should be against superstitions
-         Should be information based
-         Must be aware of new technologies
-         Must have a good networking with other people.
We discussed about the role of a science journalist.
-         Removes superstitions
-         Make people aware of the new technologies
-         Make people aware of new developments and breakthroughs
-         Manipulate complex scientific jargons in his/her report so that a common man can understand it easily.
We discussed about the sources from where a science journalist can fetch some new scientific news:
-         Institutions
-         Research & Development Companies
-         Websites
-         Science journals e.g. Nature
-         Press releases
At last a science journalist should make a topic eye catching to the common man and should be specialised in a particular science genre.
