Equality in Metro

Delhi metro has become an important part of life for all the citizens of Delhi. It is much faster, time saving and air conditioned means of transport. It also prevents us from getting stuck in heavy traffics. But a ride in a metro is not that easy and soothing as its advantages are. Traveling in metro is tough and requires lots of courage since it is always over crowded.

To avoid inconvenience for women, Delhi Metro Corporation announces the first compartment of every metro to be reserved for women with effect from 2nd October. I was really disappointed to know this because I always believed in equality among gender and this reservation for women according to me was a discrimination against all men. If we consider the fact that all men and women are equal then why have reservation only for women?

But today I travelled in ladies compartment in metro...it was so less crowded and it was so easy to stand. Few days back I had a discussion with my good male friend and I argued that there should not be a reserved compartment. But today I got his point that reserved compartment will always be much safer and more comfortable for any girl at any time. Girls now don’t have to bear the stares from strangers and can freely stand without the fear of being touched by anyone.

But even now I believe in ‘no gender biasness’ and I feel that there should be an all male compartment- a reserved compartment for men.
