From Class to Class Report.(29-10-2010)

Its always beneficial to gain and share knowledge with experienced people and that’s exactly what we did in our last class on Friday (29-10-2010).

We had with us Mr. Pawan koundal (production head of media department, I.P. college) and Mr. Sarvesh Dutt Tripathy (Associate Professor, IP University) , both being experts in their respective fields.
In our first class with Mr. Pawan, we learnt some basics of video editing, we were taught how to use windows movie maker.
-It could be used to add phonetic and visual (blur, grayscale, ease in etc.) effects to any video.
-It is also a good software to add or remove any part of the original video.
-It is a very basic software to edit but is simple and is effective in making auto video transitions and give titles and credits to any presentation.
Apart from windows movie maker he also made us familiar with basic terms and usage of camcorder (zoom in and zoom out, setting white balance, tripod stand etc.).
We had a very demonstrative and illustrative class with sir and we hope to learn more from him in coming times.

From camera demonstrations in the first class we shifted to news and related theory in second.

In our second class with Mr. Tripathi, we grasped knowledge about news, format of a newspaper and a detailed version of four W’s and one H.
He very expressively taught us the difference between hard and soft news
-Hard news: A news which goes stale the next day of it’s publishing date. It has to be reported immediately.
-Soft news: News which are exclusive stories of a newspaper and are not common to every source of news.

Moreover he explained the format of a newspaper:
-Flag or nameplate: The name of the newspaper e.g. Hindustan Times.
-Entry point: An index to important news inside the newspaper generally below thw nameplate.
-Print Line: It gives the details of the publisher and contact details.
-Dateline: Traditionally it gave the date and place from which the news is reported but these days it’s only limited to place.
-Cut line or Caption: It is a phrase generally used to explain a photo or caricature.
-Credit line: It gives the name of the source of news when source is an agency.
-By line: It is very similar to a credit line, the only difference is that in case of a byline source of news is not an agency but it is and individual.
We were also explained in detail about the 4 w’s and 1 H required to complete a news feature.

Both the sessions were very informative and instructive and we look forward to learn more from such experienced and learned teachers.

Thank you.

Akhyan: a return to innocence

India was never known to the world at large for it’s polity or economy, it was known for it’s vibrant culture. What unites us, “the Indians”, is the purity of our culture. Akhyan: a celebration of masks, puppet and picture showmen traditions of India, unites the diverse culture of India.

The festival verbalizes the ancient as well contemporary notions of Indian art. Akhyan gives narrative expression through masks, puppets and picture scroll about the socio-cultural, relgious and historical curves in the most artistic manner.

The thirty day festival Organized in the grounds of IGNCA (Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts) near the time of Diwali and Id, gives a chance to pay money for our appetites and loads of innovative and unique stuff for our homes and for our personal self as well. Ranging from sarees, suits, ethnic wear, home furnishing stuff to music, dance and other traditional forms of entertainment like CHAPRAKATUU from Tamil Nadu, Akhyan has something to offer everyone. It involves 500 Indian artists and Indian narratives.

DHOLA-MAARU: Puppet storytelling

Puppetry is the most loved art form since childhood. It’s origin dates back to Brahma ( a deity in Hindu mythology who has created the universe). Puppetry is intricate and innovative in it’s style.

The performers use Kathputlis, generally upto 60 centimeters tall which have trunks, heads and headgear carved mainly from mango wood and have large stylized, painted eyes. The bodies of the puppets are made of cloth and stuffed rag. They are colourfully dressed.

Kathputli ka khel from Rajasthan was one it’s kind. The director of Kathputli ka khel is Puran Bhat who is also a National Awardee and travels round the globe to teach this art.The community of nats or bhats illustrate stories on the legends of Rajasthan through puppet shows.

One such puppet performance was “Dhola-Maaru.” It’s a triangle love story of a prince from Rajasthan named Dhola, who marries Maaru, a princess from Rajasthan, in childhood. As they never saw each and never lived together, Dhola forgets about his marriage in his young age. A witch falls in love with the prince Dhola and to attract the prince she disguises herself as a young and beautiful lady, with the help of black magic. Dhola gets attracted towards the witch and he completely forgets his wife Maaru. Disheartened Maaru sends a parrot to Dhola to convey her message of love and marriage, but the witch interrupts.

Dhola tries her best to get back her husband and so she sends a puppeteer to the palace of prince Dhola, where the puppeteer performs a puppet show infront of Dhola to resonate back the true story of Dhola-Maaru and the witch. And like every good fairy tale, Dhola-Maaru’s saga ends well.

The Akshay Bhat one of the puppeteers also put across a minor complaint about the mainstream media and technological advancement, which is keeping people behind the doors and not encouraging people to be a part of the celebration.

It’s true indeed that we have confined our worlds to social networking, mall culture or cafeterias but after visiting Akhyan, it will come across to people with even slight sensitivity towards culture and ethics, that not always mainstream entertainment like bollywood, is the real show.

What we are leaving behind is valuable and expensive. Though the works and artifacts aren’t easy to afford but they are worth keeping passion for. Till then you can always visit such festivals and atleast give urself a treat of Hyderabadi biryani or Rajasthani Pao bhaji.

Corruption In India

“Corruption is Social Evil” “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

In its simplest sense, corruption may be defined as an act of bribery or misuse of public position or power for the fulfillment of selfish motives or to gain personal gratifications. It has also been defined as "Misuse of authority as a result of consideration of personal gain which need not be monetary".

In recent Centuries India has earned a place among the THREE most corrupt countries in the world. Corruption in India is a consequence of the nexus between Bureaucracy, politics and criminals. India is now no longer considered a soft state. It has now become a consideration state where everything can be had for a consideration. Today, the number of ministers with an honest image can be counted on fingers. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time.

It is well established that politicians are extremely corrupt the world over. In fact, people are surprised to find an honest politician. These corrupt politicians go scot-free, unharmed and unpunished. Leaders like Lal Bahadur Shastri or Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel are a rare breed now who had very little bank balance at the time of death. The list of scams and scandals in the country is endless. Now Recently Before Start 2010 Commen Wealth Games Corruption is playing major role with commen wealth games. The Bofors payoff scandal of 1986 involved a total amount of Rs 1750 crore in purchase of guns from a Swedish firm for the Army. The Cement scandal of 1982 involved the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Sugar Scandal of 1994 involved a Union Minister of State for food, the Urea Scam and of course no one can forget Hawala Scandal of 1991, the Coffin-gate, fodder scam in Bihar or the Stamp scandal which shocked not only the political arena but the entire society.

Is it possible to contain corruption in our society? Corruption is a cancer, which every Indian must strive to cure. Many new leaders when come into power declare their determination to eradicate corruption but soon they themselves become corrupt and start amassing huge wealth.

There are many myths about corruption, which have to be exploded if we really want to combat it. Some of these myths are: Corruption is a way of life and nothing can be done about it. Only people from underdeveloped or developing countries are prone to corruption. We will have to guard against all these crude fallacies while planning measures to fight corruption.

It is not possible to kill or remove the corruption by improving the Social-economic conditions of the . Because we all know that the most of the people who are corrupted are not economically or socially backward, surely they will be having a notable social status.

"Despite a decade of progress in establishing anti-corruption laws and regulations, these results indicate that much remains to be done before we see meaningful improvements in the lives of the world's poorest citizens."

The following steps should be considered to eradicate corruption:

Greedy business people and unscrupulous investors should stop bribing the political elites.Don’t be either at the receiving or at the bribing end. Political elites should stop putting their private gains before the welfare of citizens and economic development of their regions. Government should include a chapter in text books related to corruption and its desire consequences.

We are all need to stop talking about Corruption but we right now start ourself take the initiative and be Brave ourself. Corruption is going to end only when people like us stand up and speak out.

If we do not take step forward to remove corruption from root, the word developing country will always be attached with our country INDIA . So we the common man are solution for removing corruption from our INDIA and hence we will be also helpful in making our country developed.

It is possible..today’s generation is willing to change this system. And soon corruption is gone out from India.Every person should have his own responsibility to avoid corruption

A strong youth movement in the country only can remove corruption and each student should take a vow to begin this exercise courageously within the family-Former President Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam

INTROVERTS v/sEXTROVERTS

Being an introvert  I want to share some of the misconceptions regarding INTROVERTS....

Clearing Up the Misconception1) Introverts are not always shy. In fact, research has shown that introverts are often very sensitive to subtle social signals and may simply be reacting to information others just don't see.

2) In our culture its a compliment to be told you're extroverted it means you're happy and sociable. On the other hand, introverts are frequently thought to be reclusive, self-centered, or anti-social. But introverts care for others no less than extroverts; they simply show it in different ways. While their sensitivities may make introverts seem weak, introversion actually creates many strengths including great depth and insight allowing them to be gifted leaders, speakers, teachers, and visionaries.

3) In fact, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates and, believe it or not, Steve Martin, are among the ranks of the introverted.

It's important to look at the three main differences between introverts and extroverts:
1. The ways they get energy. Extroverts receive energy from external stimulus, while introverts get energy from the inner thought world. As a result, even if introverts perform well in social settings, they are often drained by people and need time alone to recuperate.

2. The ways they respond to stimulation. Extroverts thrive in environments that provide multi sensory stimulation. Introverts, on the other hand, have a busy inner world and can easily be overwhelmed by external stimulation. That's why introverts may be reserved and prefer quiet environments.

3. Their approach to knowledge and experience. Extroverts like to absorb as much as they can from their environment; they crave variety and breadth. Their introverted counterparts prefer depth; they invest energy in select areas. This is why they may be careful about choosing activities and may be hesitant to offer their feelings or ideas.

take care.

How many stars are their in the sky?
Generally I am not able to count them but on Diwali they fuse.

A businessman in making says I will be a big entrepreneur one day-I will produce water.
He is an intelligent guy and he knows we will help him achieve his goal, he knows we are not so intelligent or even if we are we don’t care. Do we??

No we don’t because we are cool enough to make fun of those who do care.
Because it’s not a long time ago when she asked me not to throw that wrapper on the road next to the bin, now that road is no less than a bin.
But we ignored in unity and we were more and we were right and we don’t care.

Last night I heard the sound; water running ,time pacing away. I forgot to shut the tap and yes their was sound of water running but I was busy with my songs, I somehow managed to overburden that sound with the music. Music is better and we are right and we don’t care.

We are busy people, we only sleep for 8 hours a day and sometimes in the night too.
We have a demanding lifestyle, we only watch tv 2 hours a day.
How can we waste 10 seconds of our life switching off a light when we can neglect it instantaneously.
Why should I care when nobody else does?
Yes we are more and we are right and we don’t care.

We may be more but we are not right because present let us neglect future will not.
Let’s waste ten seconds of our life everyday.
Let’s take care,
Because stars celebrate diwali too.

thank you.

3 Common Mistakes Which Stop Us From Having A Great Life

With some experience, I have noticed that there are 3 common mistakes because of which we are not able to live a great life. Below are the common mistakes which stop us from living a great life.

1. Letting The Fear Control You: If you really want to have a great life then you would have to make some effort and get out of your comfort zone. You might feel scary at first but if you will keep on letting the fear control you, you will never be able to have a great life. You should learn to control your fear. Do not let the fear dictate your life.

2. Self Doubting: Low self confidence and low self esteem makes you loose lots of opportunities in life. You must start believing in yourself and stop doubting yourself. Do whatever it takes to improve your confidence so that you can have a life you deserve.

3. Not Listening To Your Heart: The pressure to do things in life from the people who care about you, sometimes become overbearing. Though, the intentions of the people around you may be good but they may not know what a good life for you is. You should remember that it’s your life and you should live it in your own way. You should follow your heart if you really want to live a great life.

Yoga alleviates body ache

People who suffer body ache can get rid of it by doing yoga, a study has found.

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a disorder causing widespread muscular skeletal pain and fatigue that is thought to affect nearly two million adults in Britain, reports express.co.uk.

A team from Oregon Health and Science University studied whether patients taking a "yoga awareness" programme alongside their standard treatment showed more improvement compared to a control group of sufferers.

"Although yoga has been practiced for millennia, only recently have researchers begun to demonstrate yoga's effects on people suffering from persistent pain," said research head James Carson.
The experts conducted an all-woman study because 80 per cent of FM patients are women.

The yoga was tailored to address pain, fatigue, sleep disturbance and emotional distress in FM. Each class included gentle stretching poses, mindfulness meditation and breathing techniques.

Following treatment, women assigned to the yoga programme showed far greater improvements in their symptoms and general mood.

"The findings of this pilot study provide promising preliminary support for the beneficial effects of yoga in patients with FM," said Carson.

4)In the night       (9 p.m.-3a.m.)

AT THE WE HAD DISCUSSION OVER DECK ( THE UNIT OF HEADLINES )
It was really very good n interesting class we had .

WHO IS SMARTER? GIRLS OR BOYS.....THE ANCIENT DEBATE!

Women are not smarter than men, but they are more aware and recognizant!  This has been a worldwide controversy notion since the beginning of creation. People seem to ignore the subject in order to avoid any embarrassment. Some say that boys are smarter in a way that boys are physically stronger hence; they can learn new experiences like building a house, or cutting a tree etc. While some advocate that girls are way smarter because they are deep thinkers and imaginative! Though they are physically weaker, but they are much better than boys mentally speaking. They think before they act and they remain calm in crises. Boys on the other hand tend to reason things out and find practical solutions to problems. They don’t waste time and they like to hit the subject right away. That’s why boys don’t like to chat for hours on the phone without a goal. While girls are more emotional and tend to share their experiences, and that’s why girls are way better than boys in art. They tend to “split-hairs” and discuss more since they are minute about details. So, while boys consider girls talking on the phone boring, women find it very useful because they want to share their story with someone else.

Boys are more intelligent than girls in the outside world since boys spend their childhood playing around with friends. They are better in physical activities than girls are like soccer, baseball or basketball. Girls on the other hand, are planners since they tend to stay at home. They read more and talk to parents more often than boys do. However, boys can be smarter where physical action or power needed while girls are smarter in terms of learning and memory because girls after all enjoy endurance and long-lasting fortitude. They can handle the house issue perfectly all day   as well as an outside job if ever exists. Boys, however, enjoy muscular and temporary endurance. They come home from work completely tired and that’s why women are givers while men are takers. The difference between the two is very clear as some scientists suggest: women are sensitive, romantic, and emotional and tend to use sentiment to deal with the outside challenges. Men are rational, realistic, and factual and tend to use reason to solve their problems. Both are unique and endowed special abilities to cope with reality each according to their own perspective. That’s why it’s weird to see a man crying or to see a women working in constructions!

Culture: a matter of likes and dislikes.

Many practices, norms and rules of the present day are held logical, because it’s a part of culture. What is culture?

Culture is a way of life. When two or more individuals adopt same kind of likings and dislikings in respect to music, taste, dressing, eating, thought process, we come to define it as culture. It’s a shared way of living. For instance if two people think that drinking is a sin then it becomes a part of their thinking which forms a particular culture, this is given acceptance and carried on from generation to generation and becomes a tradition on the same hand.

Is there something wrong about a particular culture. Well my logic says a big NO. We can’t hold a particular culture as intelligible or unintelligible because it’s not accepted by people at large. People have different identities and there identities can’t be modified in one single way. Just because a particular culture is in majority it can’t be acceptable to everyone. Culture becomes binding when it’s being imposed on individuals even when they don’t want to be a part of it. Many evil practices are defined as culture which is surely a misinterpretation (like honor killings).

But the question that we ask if all cultures are right in their own way then how can we prevent bad practices in society. For instance- hippies consume drugs as a part of their culture which is a crime, not for them but for the society. Where should we draw lines between good and bad practices. Well following are some of the points that must be considered-

· All cultures must hold some shared understanding of good or bad as this will create cooperative society.

· People should not impose a cultural practice on others.

· Culture should be a blend of modernity and traditions.

· It should be able to transcend itself with time.

· People should make culture a matter of principle but not a matter of rule.

· Practices which are unlawful (like consuming drugs) should be not be a part of any culture.

If these things are taken into consideration then we can hope to have a society where these heterogeneous cultures live in unity to form an ideal society. Where even conflicts can be easily resolved on a shared understanding.

Love Like And Life.

Since most of us think that we were in love or we are in love I think it is a very important topic to talk and to ponder upon.

How to define it?
Nobody can define it perfectly and I don’t think I should even try but I think most of us misinterpret it; most of us want to love someone and be loved by somebody.
Most of us think we have loved someone in our life and maybe that is true but the odds of it happening are very low because we are humans and humans are selfish and selfish sentiments opposes true love.
Because love is not about being with somebody or talking to somebody everyday or expressing it, it’s just about doing it.
We somehow seek love but it is not to be searched, it already exists but humans are selfish.
We somehow want the other person to know our value, our importance but that is not love, that was liking; another very strong and important emotion, I think even better in today’s world. Liking is very similar to love till we are liked by somebody from the other end but as soon as it vanishes the self centered human in us overcomes our liking heart and our emotions very rapidly evolve and we think we have learnt a lesson in life.
Liking can’t be compared with love; both are very different and important parts of life.
Why do we think that love is superior to liking?
Because it is easy to like than love?
So what it is much difficult to accept that we liked somebody and we were not in love,
It takes guts to not tag your liking as love and accept it.
And when it comes to accepting or expressing our love, we lag behind in it too; we rarely express it to our parents, seldom to our siblings, often to our friends and regularly to our boyfriends and girlfriends because expressing true love is also very difficult and rare.

So let’s just avoid considering liking as love,
Lets avoid considering love superior to liking,
Let’s avoid loving individuals,
Let’s try to love the world.

Thank you.

I WoNdEr...whHAt LIFE is alL ABoUt....!

I wonder, If Anybody Would Love YOu, The way i do...

SAVE ELECTRICITY

Sourabh Siyal and Tushar Agarwal, students of Christ College, designed a model which would pester people to take interest in environmental issues. Eco-wash, a washing machine was made out of junk material and ran on mechanical and kinetic energy, without the use of electricity.

"The junk materials include a discarded plastic bottle, which we used as a box to wash clothes. A pulley is attached to the plastic bottle to run the machine. The pulley moves with the help of kinetic energy and helps to wash clothes," explained Agarwal, who wants to be a scientific innovator.
"Our idea is to do away with electricity and come up with an alternative. The washing machine can be useful in big textile industries. We're planning to give our idea to one of India's leading garment manufacturing units," said Siyal, who too wanted to pursue research works in the field of science.

In another such example of innovation, four students of Outreach school, under the guidance of their Physics teacher developed an 'Earthquake predictor'. "The earthquake predictor is nothing but a borewell. The borewell is attached to a buzzer. The buzzer makes sound if the underground water level increases, which means that the movement of lava in the underground is moving at a faster rate, an indication of the likelihood of an earthquake. The fast movement of lava will force the water level to increase, which in turn will make the buzzer give out signals

Do the Aussies have an India problem?

Anyway you look at it, the Aussies seem to have problem with things India and Indians. Don’t take my word for it, just look at the facts:

1. Which is the country with the largest number of racial attacks - "curry bashings" - on Indians, for over a year now?
2. Which is the country which has 23 per cent of the world's total Uranium reserves but has steadfastly refused to sell it to India, even though the Nuclear Supplier's Group has okayed the sales?
3. Which is the country against whom India almost forfeited a cricket test due to biased umpiring?
4. Which is the country who raised racism charges against an Indian cricketer, and against the unwritten understanding that what happens on the field should remain on the field complained to the match referee and the ICC?

5. Which is the country against whose athletes threw a washing machine down eight floors of their apartments during the CWG 2010, in protest against the Indian team handing them a drubbing on the cricket field? And abused the nation's cricketing god?
6. Which is the country which regularly issues security alerts and threatens to boycott sporting events in India?
7. Which is the country in which senior police officers were circulating a videos of an Indian being electrocuted in a train and joking that 'this" was the way to deal with the immigrant Indians in their country?
8. Which is the country in which an Indian citizen -- Mohamed Haneef -- was detained and his visa cancelled in 2007, after it was found that he was the second cousin of two men arrested for involvement in terrorist attacks in the UK; and who later won both cases against the Government of Australia, his visa was restored and cleared of any links to terrorism.
9. Which country's captain, broke all protocol, tapped the Chief Guest of the evening and a member of India's Union Cabinet, on the shoulder and almost demanded that he hand the World Cup over immediately?
There is, of course, only one answer to the all the queries - Australia.
What does this suggest? Isolated instances. Or the result of a particular Australian attitude towards India. Racial undertones or plain jealousy - at an erstwhile Third World country's ascendancy in the global economic and power calculus?
