CLASS REPORT – 15TH NOVEMBER 2012

Today we had a very instructive class from Mr. Sanjay Tiwari. We deliberated about how web journalism is different from traditional journalism. He told us that how internet has revolutionised the field of journalism and that how Web journalism emerged due to blogging.

Rediff.com was the first to experiment with the concept of Web Journalism. In 2004, Web Journalism gained prominence because of the arrival of blogger and Unicode. Since then Google added blogger in its services so that freedom of expression would be within everyone’s reach. Wordpress.com was the first one to experiment media on the internet. It also introduced PHP coding technology so that everyone can post their content on the internet.

Important stuffs needed to run a website:

-          Domain (an identification string)

-          Content Management System(WordPress , Joomla! which run on PHP platform)

-          Server for Hosting

-          Search Engine Marketing

The domain is available at wordpress.com at a minimal cost and you also get a licence for that for about a year or two. For server, several companies like The Planet Host (www.planethost.com), host your website and they charge somwhere around 5000 INR- 10000 INR.

An important point you should care about:

Every CMS has a unique management system, that if once you have chosen your CMS you have to stick to it till the licence of your domain expires.
