Drug Abuse and Addiction

WHAT IS DRUG ABUSE???????

Many people do not understand why individuals become addicted to drugs or how drugs change the brain to foster compulsive drug abuse. They mistakenly view drug abuse and addiction as strictly a social problem and may characterize those who take drugs as morally weak. One very common belief is that drug abusers should be able to just stop taking drugs if they are only willing to change their behavior. What people often underestimate is the complexity of drug addiction -- that it is a disease that impacts the brain and because of that, stopping drug abuse is not simply a matter of willpower. Through scientific advances we now know much more about how exactly drugs work in the brain, and we also know that drug addiction can be successfully treated to help people stop abusing drugs and resume their productive lives.
Drug abuse and addiction are a major burden to society. Estimates of the total overall costs of substance abuse in the United States -- including health- and crime-related costs as well as losses in productivity -- exceed half a trillion dollars annually. This includes approximately $181 billion for illicit drugs, $168 billion for tobacco, and $185 billion for alcohol. Staggering as these numbers are, however, they do not fully describe the breadth of deleterious public health -- and safety -- implications, which include family disintegration, loss of employment, failure in school, domestic violence, child abuse, and other crimes.

What is drug addiction?

Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes compulsive drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences to the individual who is addicted and to those around them. Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs leads to changes in the structure and function of the brain. Although it is true that for most people the initial decision to take drugs is voluntary, over time the changes in the brain caused by repeated drug abuse can affect a person's self control and ability to make sound decisions, and at the same time send intense impulses to take drugs.
It is because of these changes in the brain that it is so challenging for a person who is addicted to stop abusing drugs. Fortunately, there are treatments that help people to counteract addiction's powerful disruptive effects and regain control. Research shows that combining addiction treatment medications, if available, with behavioral therapy is the best way to ensure success for most patients. Treatment approaches that are tailored to each patient's drug abuse patterns and any co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and social problems can lead to sustained recovery and a life without drug abuse.
Similar to other chronic, relapsing diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, or heart disease, drug addiction can be managed successfully. And, as with other chronic diseases, it is not uncommon for a person to relapse and begin abusing drugs again. Relapse, however, does not signal failure -- rather, it indicates that treatment should be reinstated, adjusted, or that alternate treatment is needed to help the individual regain control and recover.

MAA

“Maa what you think all day?”

“I think about you baby, i think about your life ahead. I think how my little angel who is a grown up now will face this world. I would like to see how my angel would bring up her children. This is what i think baby.”

“But maa do you think about you, yourself, your life?”

Maa went quite for a minute, smiling back she says,” you are my life and I think about it.”

She gives her 100% to everything she does, she’ll never forget to pack your lunch. She’ll be your bank always in the times of dire emergency, she’ll not buy a pack of bindis or dozen of bangles to gift you, your favourite t-shirt on your birthday, she’ll always call you to ask you “when are you coming back home?”, no matter what she lost in her life, no matter what pains she face, she never expresses that.

What is primary to us, is always secondary for her and that’s “I”. She’ll never say “this is what I want, this is what i think.”

I was observing one day my mother, guess that’s what we don’t do these days cause we are over possessed with our lives, and while observing her, it occured to me that what my mother thinks all day. She is a homemaker, what is that she thinks all day. May be according to me what is to be cooked in tonight’s dinner or what clothes are to be sent for iron next morning. When i asked her what she thinks all day i got the same reply as above. And i was so surprise to realise this suddenly at that moment that what is this life when you don’t think about you but only about your family.

Guess the answer was within me only. This is how the nature of a mother is. Her heart is purest form of love. For me God is within your MAA. It’s not that fathers aren’t caring. But their is still a scope of “I” or there is something called male ego in every man. Fathers must be loving you or protecting you equally but the absence of “I” in a mother makes her one of the kind.

Respect your Maa, talk to her about her, give her time, go on a walk with her or take her on a coffee. So not just wish her on her birthday and Mother’s day but always.

Share your thoughts friends.

LAUGHTER IS INTEGRAL TO RELATIONSHIPS

She told me that "If I were ur wife, I would poison ur coffee", to which I replied, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it". We grew up in a home filled of laughter.
I learnt that d ability to laugh heartily at situations, jokes, others and most importantly yourself, was one of d greatest gifts you could empower yourself with. As is said," If you laugh with it, you can live with it!"
Laughter is integral to Raltionships. A couple dat laughs together stays together. Serious situations can b diffused with laughter and touchy issues are braved a good sprinkling of humour.
We all luv a good laugh and blessed is the man who can laugh at himself, for he will never cease to b amused. Laughtre is d cheapest luxury dat v have. It electrifies our nerves, clears away the cobwebs from our brains, and gives our entire system a good cleansing. Additionally, it lowers blood pressure, reduces stress hormones, boosts immunity function and is a fabulous relationship strenghthener!
LET'S NOT TAKE OURSELVES TOO SERIOUSLY................ LET'S LAUGH MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS AWAY........
WE DON'T STOP LAUGHING B'COZ LIFE IS TOUGH; LIFE IS TOUGH B'COZ WE STOP LAUGHING...........

Equality in Metro

Delhi metro has become an important part of life for all the citizens of Delhi. It is much faster, time saving and air conditioned means of transport. It also prevents us from getting stuck in heavy traffics. But a ride in a metro is not that easy and soothing as its advantages are. Traveling in metro is tough and requires lots of courage since it is always over crowded.

To avoid inconvenience for women, Delhi Metro Corporation announces the first compartment of every metro to be reserved for women with effect from 2nd October. I was really disappointed to know this because I always believed in equality among gender and this reservation for women according to me was a discrimination against all men. If we consider the fact that all men and women are equal then why have reservation only for women?

But today I travelled in ladies compartment in metro...it was so less crowded and it was so easy to stand. Few days back I had a discussion with my good male friend and I argued that there should not be a reserved compartment. But today I got his point that reserved compartment will always be much safer and more comfortable for any girl at any time. Girls now don’t have to bear the stares from strangers and can freely stand without the fear of being touched by anyone.

But even now I believe in ‘no gender biasness’ and I feel that there should be an all male compartment- a reserved compartment for men.

WHEN IN LUV, IT'S ONLY D HEART DAT SPEAKS

She was d imprint and he, her nostalgia.

COMING SOON.......
BY: MAYANK RAGHAV

The School Tie.

P.S.- ‘ha ha’ means please laugh because it isn’t funny.

‘yo’ means so cool because it isn’t a bit.

‘aww’ means soooo cute because its so stupid.

I still have some memories of that day. My hair were oiled, combed- side parted in the ratio 1:10, I was happy to carry a pink bag on my shoulders and I had an I-card in my small delightful hands (aww). I was with my father (now he was carrying my pink bag); he left me with a fat guard who escorted me to a place which I miss the most.

I grew older like everybody does (except maybe Benjamin button (ha ha)) and now I was in third standard. Now I used to play some mature games- Ringa Ringa Roses, ice water, doctor doctor and please don’t reveal this but I also had a kitchen set(ha ha).

Okay, then there was tension; I was in sixth grade and the first time I gave my exams and the only time I did well. Fortunately and unfortunately I was a child no more- I was cheap, vulgar, crass, gross, etc (yo).

Unfortunate because being crass and cheap is not so cool.

Fortunate because when you are vulgar at a young age, you know that it’s not cool when it really matters. (This was written to prove that I am not cheap anymore (ha ha)).

Then began the age of me becoming small, as in the girls becoming tall. They were all taller than me and I used to stand second in the row (aww). I was in 8th standard then and

That was the time I first bunk my school (yo) and was first caught doing so.

Then day bunks became a part and parcel of this journey- I was in tenth and I had my boards and I had cigarettes and I had ethanol (fortunately and unfortunately).

Unfortunate because it is not at all cool.

And fortunate because when you try it early you know that it’s not cool when it really matters.

And then was the double one class- 11th.

The class when I was punished by every teacher- thrown out, cleaning the field, standing on the bench, laughing for the whole class without a break etc.

Then was the class to remember, to cherish-12th.

Friends were always there so were the teachers but it’s when something departs, you recognize its value. This was the class where it all ended ; this was the class of my farewell.

Every year had a different experience. Every year was so memorable.

This was for my school life,

Because I still miss my SCHOOL TIE.

Thank you.

peace.
