This week viewers were spoilt for a choice as three films were releasing, but it seems they avoided coming out of their homes for these films. 'Chakravyuh', 'Ajab Gazabb Love' and 'Rush' appear to have failed in generating interest in the spectator's heart.
Prakash Jha's 'Chakravyuh' is the top grossing film this week, but its collection doesn't match with the hype that was created around its release. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweets, "#Chakravyuh was a midweek release. Opened on Wednesday. Hence, 4-day total is 9.40 cr nett
On the other hand, 'Ajab Gazabb Love' didn't receive positive reviews and that gets reflected in the collection also. Taran Adarsh writes on the micro blogging site Twitter, "#AjabGazabbLove Fri 1.25 cr, Sat 1.40 cr. Total: Rs 2.65 cr nett."
However, 'Chakravyuh' is picking up the pace after a slow start. The makers would be hoping for a better finish. Recently, 'OMG' did good business after a bad start, so the game is still open for Jha and his 'Chakravyuh'

German National Team's European Venture

Every football fan would admit that the most underachieving and unlucky team in International football is Germany. They have been the most consistent team of recent times. Their worst performance in the last 10 years was when they have lost out in the semi finals. This is enough proof about how Germany have come up with a great squad year after year. This year, the Germans are enthusiastic about pushing it to all the way to glory.
The squad has a perfect blend of youth and experience. Klose and Podolski are a veteran duo who aren't that good when it comes to club football, but in a German shirt, they are probably the best two players you'd love to have in your strike force. Bastian Schwensteiger and Philip Lahm are the best in the business. The former can run riot in the midfield while the latter kept Messi in his pockets during the World Cup clash. Mesut Ozil and Thomas Muller were a revealation in the last World Cup where they stepped up brilliantly from the Under 21 team and fitted in to steam roll over oppositions until the German team came to a halt against the Spaniards. Mario Gotze is the most notable new addition to the squad. He has been tipped as the most promising player to be playing in this year's European Champonship. Mario Gomez has had a super season in the Bundesliga and he will be up there to prove a point for Germany.

FORMATION : 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-2-2-1

                       Neuer
Boateng     Badstuber         Hummels        Lahm
       Schwensteieger     Khedira
   Muller             Ozil               Podolski
                   Klose/Gomez

The Classic German style of play is most effective when played with the classic formation of 4-2-3-1. Bastian Schwensteieger distributes the ball to orchestrate every German attack. Ozil, Podolski and Muller choke the opposition defense by beautiful and swift passing combined with brilliant wing play tear apart oppositions resulting into Goals galore. The inclusion of Mario Gotze will be an interesting thing to watch out for. He is an attacking midfielder but in the current set-up there can only be one attacking midfielder who is Ozil. Thus, the second formation will be effective in this scenario.

                       Neuer
Boateng     Badstuber         Hummels        Lahm
                  Schwensteieger
            Gotze                 Ozil
    Muller                               Podolski
                    Klose/Gomez

Klose may be prefferred over Gomez as Germany never play with the classic Number 10. Manuel Neuer is arguably the best keeper in modern times. The back four are rock solid and the midfield is probably the best midfield in the competition.

Injuries and Suspentions:
Michael Ballack is the most notable absentee from the squad. The former German Captain retired after being overlooked by the Coach for a long time. The present squad is injury free and raring to go the distance.

IMPACT PLAYERS:

1) Bastian Schwensteieger
The Midfield Maestro willbe up for a challenge. He would like to redeem himself after missing out the final penalty in the final of the Champions League. He can deliever exquisite passes and get some piledrivers in from long range. The Bayern Munich midfielder will be the orchestrater of every attack in the ranks.

2) Mesut Ozil
The Real Madrid star made his impact on world stage two years ago with a scintilating performance in the World Cup. When Germans take the field, all eyes will be on him to play well and make his country proud.

Predicted Finish:
With the brilliant squad and passionate players, Germany are expected to atleast make it into the Last four. But one can see no reason why they won't finish as the Champions of Europe. The German Players try and give their best for the country unlike the players of other countries. I expect an attractive German squad which will score bucket loads of goals and make it big this Championship. Some brilliant football can be expected from the European powerhouse.

Top 5 Sports Movies of all Time

5. Chak De! India :
The only Bollywood movie in the countdown has to be the Shahrukh Khan starrer. Focused on the sporting culture in India, this movie helped in resurrection of sports. Great Movie, no doubt, but should have been narrated in a better way.

4. The Longest Yard:

Don't compare today's comedy version of "The Longest Yard" to the old with Burt Reynolds. Today's is good and effective for what it is, a comedy film with a bit of action interlaced. So many classic Hollywood films were so good, that any attempt at a remake is just going to fall flat on its face. The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler is more of today's take on the story if you asked me. It has humor, and is Sandler at his best with Chris Rock playing his role well too. Critics and classic moviegoers beware. Unless you are open-minded, you will never find the hidden treasures of the movie world. It's a football comedy, plain and simple.

3. The Damned United:

The Best movie on football, ever. Based on true life events of a legendary Manager Brian Clough, this movie takes you through his struggles and achievements. Mark it down, and make sure to watch it.

2. Rocky Series:

Rocky Balboa, remember the name. The whole series is bloody brilliant. Great storyline, epic characters, and great emotions. This movie isnt just about the sport, it's about life. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you're missing out on life.

1. Miracle:

"Dream On!". Based on the true incident of Winter Olympics, the movie takes you through a journey of incidents when the USA Ice Hockey team did the unthinkable at that time, they beat USSR. This movie fills so much of adrenaline in you that after the final whistle in the match, you will be overwhelmed by the sheer emotions it leaves in you.

Honorary Mention: Remember the Titans, Hip Hip Hurray, United.

Hating City!

The Blue end of Manchester has undergone severe changes in form and authority. The Sheikh has brought loads of talent to the less popular of the Stadiums of Manchester. Okay, he has done it with plenty of Oil money, but he still has the funds, and he sure as hell knows to spend it well. He has brought some immense talent to the Premier League. Be it Silva, or Aguero, or Balotelli; the talent bought is unpalatable  Sheikh Mansoor has resurrected a lesser known half of Manchester and has brought the Battle of Manchester to a fair ground.
I am a Manc, and I have often seen people hurling derogatory remarks at the Blue end. I too have been in this lot of people. But later I realised my mistake. I had no reason to hate them, other than them being our rivals. But hating them for buying players? Aren't we being the supreme hypocrites when we say this? I know, many of you would disagree with me but ask yourself one question. Ask yourself about the reason to hate City?
What wrong have they done? If bringing quality players to your squad is a crime, then Every manager would love to be a criminal. Mancini had the funds and he moved on with his plans. If any manager knows that he'll be backed by HUGE(read infinite) funds, he can go berserk in the transfer window and still manage to make some decent signings. They have definitely added to the pressure in the already Inflation hit transfer market. Any team now has to make sure  that they not only have to make a decent enough bid to sign a player but also make sure that they bid a considerably high amount so that City don't hijack the bid. It has all come down to the primary theory of Charles Darwin, "Survival of the fittest."
So, competition is always considered healthy for any field. And Sports is any different from it. But Pundits too have often criticised Man City for their aggressive approach to transfers. When asked, everyone say that it isn't "FAIR". Who will decide what's fair and what's not? You, me, Pundits or the UEFA? The Fair Play rule inducted by the UEFA has been under the scanner for a long time and time and again flaws have been discovered in it. So, Spending Money is definitely NOT A CRIME.
Manchester City are a club who have risen from the annals of anonymity to the pinnacle of success in a very short span of time. They have bought players, vigorously, and have taken their squad to new heights as the players have added flair to the the squad and to the League in a whole. The new players have brought a much wanted flair and spark. Silva has taken the passing skills in the League to a all new height. Aguero has added the goal scoring intent to the Blue end of Manchester.
The critics still chose to condemn Manchester City because of their antics in the transfer window. But have you ever asked this question to yourself - "Why Do I hate City so much?"
You will definitely find yourself reeling over this question. Unless you hate them just for being the rival club of your favourite team, you definitely lack the true reason to hate City. Then why do we see so many fans and pundits go all guns blazing on the new and rising team of the toughest league in the world. We criticise them for being a real force in the transfer market and for playing "Boring"(read passing-style) football. But aren't we forgetting that these two styles are used by the Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona over the years. So, indirectly we are hating Manchester City for Emulating the perfect of amalgamation of the Spanish giants.
Real Madrid have been bolstering their squad time and again. But no one has questioned their tactics. In the face of "Galacticos", they crooked all the "fair-play" and brought together one of the costliest team. They bought he best talents in Europe to overshadow their Catalunyan Opponents. Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos and many others came together to form a team to reckon with. Did we question them? Where was UEFA at that point of time? No one stepped up and stop them. Were they afraid of the monetary backdrop of the Galacticos? Even Barcelona are the second most spending team in Europe in the past decade. They buy a new striker every transfer season religiously. They have the best youth academy in the world but they still spend big, No one can deny that fact. Why haven't UEFA ever questioned these Two Giants of world football?
Some critics have often questioned the slow tempo of the playing style of the League Leaders. They pass the ball too often amongst themselves and then kill the tempo, English League is reknowned for. In Spain, this style of football is known as "tiki-taka". Pass the opponents to death and Bore the viewers to death. But still people find Barcelona's style of play "intriguing", "beautiful" and "stylish" whereas City are branded to play "boring" and "slow" football. Talk about double standards, eh?
I guess the whole City team should wear the world-reknowned T-shirt of "Why Always Us?" Why are we targeting the new force in the league? Are We afraid of competition? We shouldn't dig too deep to criticise the Blue Side of Manchester. Let's embrace the change in the new ball game and accept the new challenge. Remember, To Beat the Best, you will have to Beat the Best. Let's see whether the Rise of the Blue Moon is good enough to last some time or is it just a temporary run of the mill.

United getting "Shinji"ed

After the row of Hazard’s transfer speculation, the fans of Manchester United were finally relieved after the signing of Shinji Kagawa was made official. With the transfer still fresh, there has been a huge buzz about the two new faces in the Premier League. The Londoners have been hailing Hazard as the next big thing where as the Mancunians have gone forward and claimed that Hazard is no better than Kagawa, instead Kagawa has better figures than Hazard. Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga this season. Kagawa won the inaugural Best Player of Bundesliga ahead of the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Robben, Ribery, Gomez, Neuer, etc. Hazard on the other hand has been tipped as the Next superstar in football.
Hazard had one of the most dramatic transfers in history. There was speculation throughout the summer regarding his whereabouts. The two Manchester Clubs were considered as favourites after curtains were drawn on the Premier League. The Blue side of Manchester won the League on virtually the last kick of the season but the availability of a starting position at Reds still kept the contest alive. But after Chelsea won the Champions League, a whole new dimension was added to this transfer saga. In came Roman and his Russian Money, swooping away the bids from Manchester city and Manchester United. The agent fees were finally met.
Parallely, Twitter had become a battleground. Tweets were firing in as the speculations were at a peak. Hazard’s official account added to the drama. Hazard had decided to declare his choice on twitter. After hours of restlessness on the part of the football fans, he finally tweeted the name of the Club. Then started the series of hate posts and hate tweets as some Mancunians(who had been praising Hazard since being linked to United) were hell bent on proving that Kagawa was better than Hazard. Glazers failure to spend big money had again faltered United in buying a great talent.
The lack of money from the owners had put the Kagawa deal, which looked set, in jeopardy. There was a fear amidst the United fans that this deal could well be cancelled after the “likely” deals such as “The Legendary Sneijder Saga”  and the latest “Hazard” deal.
Fans were concerned about the aspects of the deal. But recently this deal was sealed as Kagawa put pen to paper, to the relief of the numerous United fans throughout the world. The Japanese advanced forward will now be donning a Manchester United jersey next season. The world has already seen how great a player Kagawa is. He’s good, He’s young and He Loves Manchester United.
Kagawa had earlier made a statement that “Playing for Manchester United would be a dream come true for me.” This statement alone is enough for me to accept him whole heartedly into the team. If he loves our Club, the questions about his abilities go out of the window. Gary Neville is a prime example of such a case. Though Gary was never a “too skilled” full back but his intense passion for doing something for the club turned him into a legend. He could have showed his name to the Scouse but instead he chose kissing the badge. The name of the front of the jersey is much more important than the name on the back. Neville has time and again proved it. Since Kagawa loves us, he would play for the club, not for his own sake.
But there is a lot more to football than just plain desire and passion. When it comes to the football pitch, it all boils down to skill. And this lad, Kagawa is one hell of a player. Exquisite dribbling, brilliant vision and excellent passing to match, makes him one of the brightest talents to have graced the English League.  Statistics speak for themselves.. Shinji has had a greater impact on the Dortmund squad than Bastian has had on Bayern. This fact alone speaks volumes about the player. Let’s hope that this young player doesn’t suffer the same fate as his Asian counterpart in the United Squad who is now more of a squad player than a good player.
It doesn’t really matter whether you support Manchester United or Chelsea or any other club from the English League, you have to be happy at the arrival of these two bright talents to the League. The presence of these talents guarantees a great season to come. So cross your fingers and wait for the Season to end.

Numera Magicano

Numbers, the symbols that have paved the way for human development through years. Since the time of Adam and Eve, numbers have been prevalent in the human psyche. For some, it's fun; for others, it not. Human society has been a witness to many of the spectacular occasions when a mere number engraved itself into the annals of history. It's enchanting how dates like 3rd March became Pie Day or How soccer fans related themselves to Number '7'. Numbers are proof that many times in life, you can feel so much yet speak so little.
Some numbers have now been so imbibed in day-to-day life that they exist in our conscious  A random occurrence of 143 in a calculation brings an evil grin on the face of many or even mentioning the number 99 brings sweat on the foreheads of the Sachin lovers whereas having a roll number as weird as 69 is one of the dreams of a college student(Yes, may would disagree but deep down everyone agrees). Our perception regarding things have undergone a drastic change..... Some numbers have become special. Special, for a reason!
Some people think that human relationship with numbers is merely superficial with no emotions involved. As a very good friend of mine Stacy puts it, "Because Brain can't feel like a heart can". This an absolutely wrong assumption. Numbers are linked deep into human feelings. Being a Manchester United fan, I can tell you about my attraction for the Number "7". While many in India believe in numerology, "developed" countries like England write it off as simple superstition. In this scenario, it becomes particularly interesting to see the number 7 dominate football through the years. No, the best player isn't given the number 7 of the team but every new member who shows some promise is given this number. The journey of a complete newbie to a Superstar is done by the fuel provided by this number. David Beckham went on to the heights of glory from being a 17 year old player to a World wide phenomena due to this number. A completely fragile and a "flop"(As labelled by "The Sun") Ronaldo became the best player in the world because of this number.
Even India won the World Cup in 2011 when a Captain doning the number 7 jersey sent the ball sailing into the stands! Still you people say that numbers don't possess magical qualities? Think Again! ;)
Numbers are something divine. Words can't be cued together to express these symbols in words. Numbers have become Inspirations, Numbers have become Aspirations. Numbers have caused Perspiration. Crores of students toil their rears off for the elusive "100" in exams. You maybe an emotionless businessman but you always skip a beat when you see your bank balance increase. Things aren't always Black and White.. Some things are better left unexpressed and Numbers excel in that. Let's hope that our relationship with Numbers ends a lifetime.

Sir Alex Ferguson - The God of Football

"Superheroes aren't born, they are made", so says Stanley in his Iron Man comics. This statement is indeed true. Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager of arguably the greatest club of Europe, joined Manchester United 25 years ago on this very day. 6th November, 1986 was the date when Old Trafford saw a change. A change in manager, a change in Squad, a change in temperament and yes, a change in Habit, United players were now bred to WIN! His antics have lifted Manchester United from "another competent team" to "Red Devils" as he brought Devil back to Old Trafford. We love him, We respect him and We wish he stays the Manager as long as possible because it's impossible to imagine Manchester United without Sir Alex.
He brought a complete revolution to the English game as he emphasised on the importance of a strong defense. He conceived the idea of rugged defending and a country that boasted of having the best midfielders in the world moved on to having the best defense in the world. His emphasis on defense is a lesson to learn for India where Strikers steal the lime light. The Indian menality about defending needs to change.
Walking into the palika bazaar, I knew what I desperately wanted. The threads that would give me a feeling of belonging o the best club in the World. Yup, I wanted a Manchester United jersey with Vidic written on the back. The experience at the shop was as annoying as it could get. Firstly one of the shoppers suggested me to buy a Liverpool FC's jersey because it "would look nice on me!!". I felt like punching him in the eye as my friend burst into laughter at the Lame Suggestion. When I insisted at getting what I had come here for, he came up with a HUGE heap of jerseys. The names at the back ranged from Rooney, Chicharito, Giggs and Berbatov. Being the noob I am, i asked him for one that read Vidic. The comment that followed made me realise the truth about Indian Mindset of football. He said, "Kya Bhaiya Vidic ki jersey mang rhe ho? Koi defenders ki jersey pehenta hai bhala?? Defenders match mein karte hi kya hai? Ek jagah khade rehte hai! Asli kaam toh strikers karte hai." I fought the strong urge to beat the Salesman to death as resorting to violence is the last thing one wants to do when he's out with his friend(and that too a girl!!)
Having played for my school team for the past 6 years, I knew every tiny bit of detail of the school football. I have a strong built which made me an obvious choice for the position of the Centre Back. During School days many students asked me, "Dude, you didn't feel bad when the coach made you a defender?? Because defenders are the worst players on the Roster!" I had never seen that coming, not even in the wildest of my dreams.
Every football fanatic Indian who witness India being humbled in the AFC Asian Championship knew that the Only thing that let the Indian Team down was the defense. The outlook of defense needs to change from the grass-root level if we are to become a superpower in Football. Defenders are more than just mere players, They define a team. They determine a team's performance in the tournaments.
In India every child wishes to be a Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Aguero, Suarez, Torres, Villa, Beckham, Ozil, Gomez, Xavi and countless other "Attacking players" but no one wants to be a defender. The day a young aspiring football wants to be a defender, Football would see a new era in India.
Sir Alex once said, "Strikers may win you Matches but Defenders win you tournaments". He brought this whole idea of Resilience and Never say die spirit in The Manchester United squad. The habit of winning it late in the game even transformed the term Injury time into Mancheser United time. He is the Boss, he always was, and he always will be. His legacy shall remain in the memories of Old Trafford forever.
These lines sum up the ype of influence he had,
"CAN MANCHESTER UNITED SCORE?? THEY ALWAYS SCORE!!"
Glory Glory Manchester United....
Glory Glory Sir Alex Ferguson!!!!
Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the biggest names in football world. Arguably the best managers of all time, he has managed Manchester United for more than 25 years. He has won every possible trophy with Manchester United and has been witness to every event that shaped the future of united. He saw the class of 92 which came forth and conquered the football world. Legends have come and gone since his arrival. He is known for his shrewd tactics which makes every squad look lethal. Manchester United have more premier league titles than all their rivals combined. This speaks volumes regarding Sir Alex's career.

SOCIAL MEDIA CREATING VIOLENCE

Hillary Clinton on the anti islamic video

Recently youTube came up with the video named "Innocence of Muslims" which provoked violence worldwide. Its an anti Islamic video and Google refused to remove this video saying it did not specifically incite violence against Muslims.Google said that this video was not hate speech under its rule.
Its one of many news of social media creating violence .
Is the denial for removing this video from youTube by Google appropriate?

Hating Cricket

One Sport's loss is another Sport's gain? Cricket, in India, is more than just a religion. On a match-day, you will see a number of cricket enthusiasts flocked in front of shops and chai-wallas to catch a glimpse of the match. Many of them don't mind discussing the nit-wits of the sport with strangers. After-all  Every Indian is a cricket pundit from birth.
India finished with an all-time high medals tally of six medals. It was interesting to see how the down-trodden sports have come up against the odds at the Olympics. Many of the so-called pundits claimed that the sole reason behind India's failure is the lack of resources. Many of the Indians accepted it as well, but little do they know that the lack of resources is no more an issue in India. A state like Uttar Pradesh boasts of three world class shooting ranges. Yes, maybe the shooters have to travel a lot to get to the desired ranges but their complains about the lack of resources is ridiculous. You will often see Indian football fans blaming Cricket for the situation of football in India. Most of the football fans in India either support Manchester United or Barcelona or Liverpool. They can even tell you the names of every player in the respective squads. Ask them about any club in the i-league. The reason will become crystal clear. We prefer supporting a foreign club instead of supporting our own teams. The lack of motivation shows on the Indian players. No one wants to be the next Baichung Bhutia, instead, they want to be the next Messi. The debacle of Football vs Cricket is pointless.
Why is it so hard for Indians to accept that we lack the required talent to be the best in the world? People like to see and play a game they are good at and maybe that's why Cricket rules the roost in India. Instead of blaming a sport, shouldn't we be trying to better ourselves in other sports as well. Hating Cricket won't stop the problem but loving other sports will.

                              Mandi Mein Media

The author Vineet Kumar has come up with a book named ‘Mandi Mein Media’. The book highlights the impact of commercialization and corruption in the media.
Kumar says “I don't know why people call it the fourth pillar of the state. To me it is nothing more than a metaphor. I have tried to show how the media is just another commercial activity.”The book has tried to trace the ills through data and not merely by theories.”He justifies the title by saying that 'mandy' gives a negative sense of the market.
Kumar alleges that the huge investments required to run news channels have turned them into puppets of politicians and corporate houses. No to more channels means no to sum of license fees and the newspaper is not free from corruption either.

CLASS REPORT Part II, 9 October 2012

Yesterday, the second class was taken over by Mr. Rakesh Kumar. He is an eminent news personnel and writes for 'Deshbandhu' which is a Chattisgarh based newspaper. The prime focus of the class was different types of newspapers and their respective importance. On the basis of circulation, newspapers can be broadly divided into three categories:
  1. Small Newspapers:
The newspapers that are published and circulated on a scale of 0-24,999(i.e., below 25,000) are termed as Small Newspapers.
  2. Medium Newspapers:
The newspapers that are published and circulated on a scale of 25,000-74,999 are termed as Medium Newspapers.
  3. Big Newspapers:
If the number of newspapers that are published and circulated is above 74,999, they are called Big Newspapers.

He told us the various agencies and authorities that are in charge of giving license to newspapers for being published and circulated. The main among them are:
1. ABC: Audit Bureau of Circulation
2. RNI: Registrar of Newspapers for India.
After 18 months of publication and circulation, a newspaper gets license from Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity(DAVP), which makes it eligible to publish Government Advertisements. The website for this in the NCR is www.dcplicensing.gov.in from which a form can be easily downloaded.
Most part of the time assigned to the class was used for interactive question-answer sessions. Overall, the class was a great experience for us. The best part was that we came to know about the basics of print journalism and his own experiences, which will be very useful for us.

SAVE THE GIRL CHILD

'How sad, many girls missing from our country are found buried in some graveyard...

India is growing dynamically in every fields. Today, the boom in economy, innovative technologies and improved infrastructure has become nation’s pride. The country has witnessed advancements in all fields but bias against a girl child is still prevailing in the country.

What shocked me most was that in many regions of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan; the sex ratio of girls for every 1000 boys was mere 745 or 754 or at 779 respectively.

In a desire for a male child many female foetuses are aborted every year and now this has become a trend. We can simply make out the effects of this trend by knowing the fact that in many families the boys have only brothers, no sisters.
It is definitely a pathetic situation where raising a girl child is so difficult for these people as they consider her a ‘burden’ and ‘troublesome’.
Earlier when we did not have the technology to know about the sex of the foetus, the girl child used to be killed by putting a sand bag on her face or strangulating her or some poison used to be applied on the breasts of the mother. What adds more to it is that neither mothers nor their family members used to express any kind of sorrow on the deaths of their baby daughters. Probably they had no choice themselves but to submit to society’s pressures.
Now the scenario has changed. With the help of new technologies one can easily detect the sex of the foetus. So the practice of female infanticide has been replaced by female foeticide.
Many of us must be thinking that such practice is prevalent only among illiterate people who consider the boy child as "kuldeepak". But this is not true. The recent incident in which a lady died after giving birth to a male child is an eye-opener.
Ravi and his wife had two daughters, but they both wanted a boy, which led the wife to go for nine sex determination tests. After getting eight pregnancies terminated, against doctor’s advice, she conceived for the ninth time and thank god this time it was a male child. But she died just two days after giving birth to a baby boy. Now the boy is 10 and the two daughters are 23 and 21 years old.
According to a survey an increase of 28.32per cent has been witnessed in the number of working women in last two decades. But at the same time, what is more shameful is that the subsequent increase has also been registered in the number of pregnancy terminations or abortions by working women.
The reasons stated behind this practice are: They want a small family; they want better career prospects; they want a male child and they do not want daughters. Many of these women justify sex selection and abortions because they think that if they deliver a baby boy then they are looked upon in the family. Also, they do not want their daughters to suffer the hardships a girl has to face. Besides that they find themselves unable to afford the dowry expenses the parents of a girl child have to bear. “Since maintaining the high living standards has become so expensive, who will save for her?” say modern mothers.
These are the ‘serious’ reasons these literate and modern women give for not giving birth to a girl child. But they are forgetting that had their mothers thought the same way, they would have also met the same fate.
According to pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostics techniques (prohibition and sex selection) Act, which came into effect on 14th February 2003 as a replacement of the pre-natal diagnostic techniques (regulation and misuse amendment) Act 2002, that said any kind of sex selection in pre or post pregnancy is prohibited. If any person seeks the help for sex selection, he/she can face an imprisonment of three years and can be required to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. If any doctor is found guilty of this malpractice, he can face suspension of his registration by the state medical council. But these acts seem not to be casting much effect on the dark shades of human deeds.

An estimate says that the industry of ultrasound and sonography, sex-selection and female foeticide is of around 500 crore alone in India. And this is being run through small clinics, midwives, unregistered doctors and big hospitals. They conduct the abortions very secretly and many a times they become the reason for the death of many women. Or sometimes women have to suffer irreparable damages because of their unsafe methods of conducting the practice. But nobody dares to speak against this social evil, except those who know the seriousness of the situation.

So where are we heading? A land where there would be no girl. But don’t you think without woman, life would cease to exist on this earth.
